Finding the Free Market Switch Wall
To locate this puzzle, players must head toward the marketplace area shortly after arriving at Free Market Station. Tucked away down a dark alleyway on the right side of the main corridor, a series of back rooms will lead you directly to a wall covered in eleven distinct switches arranged in a grid. Right next to this grid sits the locked door that seals away Otto's personal quarters and journal entries.
Normally, players are expected to return to this location much later in the game after acquiring a specialized narrative item. The N-Ray Scanner gadget reveals hidden power lines running behind the panels, allowing you to trace the circuitry visually. However, if you know the exact combination beforehand, you can easily bypass the lock without needing to grind through the main story arc first.
The Switch Combination Without the Gadget
The puzzle requires players to establish three separate, non-intersecting power lines from the right side of the grid over to the three door locks on the left. Activating the switches in the incorrect sequence will instantly trip the circuit breaker and reset the entire puzzle to its default state. To prevent this system reset, you must carefully interact with the levers from right to left based on their row arrangements.
To unlock the first segment of the door, begin with the topmost row by flipping the third switch from the left, followed immediately by the second switch in that same row. Next, drop down to the middle row and flip the second switch, before finishing the first sequence by pulling the leftmost switch on the bottom row. This exact order channels the initial current correctly and turns the matching indicator light blue.
Completing the Circuit Sequences
For the second power line, focus your attention on the middle right section of the grid to continue building the path. Flip the middle-rightmost switch, then flip the switch directly to its left, and finish the line by pulling the switch located diagonally up and to the left. Tracking these specific movements ensures the secondary current reaches the panel without crossing over existing active wires.
The final lock relies entirely on the remaining components situated along the lowest portion of the grid. You must interact with the bottom-rightmost switch, followed by the two switches positioned immediately to its left. To conclude the puzzle, flip the middle-left switch to complete the final link, which triggers the mechanical mechanism and unlocks Otto's secure room for immediate exploration.
